What is an Ethel Temby study tour award?
Each year the Victorian Department of Human Services offers study scholarships and study tour awards to encourage current and future disability sector employees to develop their knowledge and skills. The Ethel Temby study tour awards are aimed at generating innovation and positive change for disability support services in the Victorian disability sector.
In order to apply you must be a Victorian resident and be employed by the Department of Human Services disability services or a community services organisation funded by the Disability Services Division under the Disability Act 2006.
Each applicant for the Ethel Temby study tour award develops and submits the details of their own travel related project and this is judged against the three goals of the State Plan:
1. pursuing individual lifestyles,
2. building inclusive communities and
3. leading the way.
The successful applicants recieve a grant to cover travel expenses, specifically costs of airfares, accommodation, meals, travel insurance, conference costs and incidentals.

How did I get an Ethel Temby study tour award?
In August 2009 I submitted an application for the Ethel Temby study tour award. The application involved an extensive project description, detailed itinerary and personal references. I am grateful to Yooralla for being so supportive of my submission.
In October 2009 I was informed that my project had been successful in receiving one of the five awards that were offered for travel in 2010.
